Editor

Ash Long is the Editor of USA Travel News.
USA Travel News has a readership that is Los Angeles-based, as well as throughout Visitor Information Centers in all 50 states.
Our Editor's 36-year newspaper career started in 1969, when he was an enthusiastic newsboy carrier.
He started his newspaper career as a 'stringer' (correspondent) for Leader Community Newspapers, whilst he was still a teenage school-boy.
He worked as a Journalist, whilst also working as a newspaper press laborer, and also on distribution/publishing work with other major newspapers.
In 1978, aged just 21, he became one of Australia's youngest-ever newspaper managers, and within a year, he was Group Classified Advertising Manager of a major Apublishing company, before becoming a senior executive at the age of 23.
By 1983, Ash Long was traveling extensively, with his professional activities including being a special guest that year at the Wisconsin Press Association, in Appleton, Wisconsin. He visited newspaper production facilities in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Washington and Dallas-Fort Worth. He returned for a further US study trip of newspapers in 1984, and spent time with his American mentor Maxwell Newton (New York Post) in Connecticut in 1985. He was one of the first newspaper publishers in the world to use Apple desktop publishing technology in 1985-86.
Ash Long's career has been accompanied by honours including being named as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, winner of the Westpac Award for 'Best Local Reporting' (Victorian Country Press Association), an invitation to be both State and Federal judge for the Best Newspapers of the Australian Suburban Newspapers Association (now Community Newspapers Australia). He holds membership of the Australasian Religious Press Association.
After several years in television production, Ash Long returned to newspapers, with the re-energising of the Melbourne Observer title in 2002, and the expansion of the Sydney News and Brisbane Sun titles in 2004. Local Media is also expanding to manage Australian Christian Press (publishers of Christian Seniors), and the Los Angeles-based USA Travel News. Ash Long is aged 48, and looks forward to 2005 as a significant growth in service to Local Media's ever-expanding client base.
